AMARILLO, TX (June 26, 2009) - A Canyon boy with a life-threatening medical condition received his one true wish on June 17, 2009 where he was able to spend the entire day with the Dallas Cowboys; most importantly, Marion Barber.
Ian’s wish was chosen as one of five of this year’s ESPN “My Wish” series. The Make-A-Wish Foundation®, ESPN and Disney collaborate in this award-winning series which airs on ESPN SportsCenter. Millions of viewers tune in to these episodes to see wish kids live out their sporting wishes with the help of well-known athletes. Hosted by Emmy Award-winning reporter Chris Connelly, each segment features interviews with the wish child and family, the challenges of coping with a life-threatening illness and a behind-the-scenes look at the wish being fulfilled.
Ian traveled to Dallas with his father and older sister to visit the Cowboys before the team made their way to San Antonio, Texas for their 2009 Training Camp. The day was full of things every Cowboys fan dreams of; spending the day on the field for practice, touching the Super Bowl trophy, eating lunch with the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, receiving a signed football helmet, running drills with Marion Barber and being in the center of the practice-ending huddle.
While in Dallas, Ian and his family also visited the Dallas Aquarium as well as Six Flags Over Texas before heading back home with stories to share and memories that will last a lifetime.
Wish granters, Dana Craig and Kent Fletcher, hosted a revealing party for Ian, complete with food and family, the week prior to his wish. The ESPN crew tagged along beside Ian that day to get a glimpse of a day-in-the-life of Ian and his family. This footage, along with footage of his day with the Dallas Cowboys will air during ESPN’s “My Wish” series during the week of July 5th-9th, 2009.
