John’s Wish - A Hummer

John, age 7, wished to go to Wal-Mart to buy a remote control hummer and then to continue his shopping spree at the Dollar Store. Knowing that all of these things and much, much more could be bought at Toys R Us, the volunteers suggested a shopping spree to Toys R Us instead. John simply responded with “What is Toys R Us?”

On the day of the wish, Amazing Tans loaned their Hummer to the Make-A-Wish volunteers so that they could pick up John and his family for their wish. The Hummer drove up to Toys R Us to find the Marines collecting for their Toys for Tots drive and had brought their own “real” Hummer. They took John and his family on a drive through the parking lot. After a little fun, Geoffrey the giraffe opened the store for John an hour early so that he could shop by himself. After a thirty minute whirlwind, he had picked out his remote control hummer along with a few other items and even managed to find time to get gifts for his baby sister.

After shopping, John and his family went to Mr. Gatti’s for a pizza lunch where he had his own party set up for him with a cake and balloons. He was allowed to go in the back to make his own pizza, and an announcement was made over the intercom about his special day. After lunch, they went to play games where they racked up over 800 tickets to spend at the prize booth.
